AU Description:
Originally from Innistis, Donnie's family eked out a manageable existence hidden away from the Empire's oppressive eye. One of several Beastkin Turtle orphans taken under the wing of a sympathetic, former gladiator and old favorite of the local coliseum until age kicked in. What things they had were salvaged from Elysium, cast off and broken things that Donnie learned how to reappropriate or repair. A curious mind with a strong desire to learn, while his father-figure taught him how to fight and defend himself, Donnie taught himself everything else that drew his interest. He learned about machinery, about how Ether stones could power so many things. He developed a love for botany and established his own garden from clippings and seeds gathered from the local forests.

It was however his love of studying the mechanical that eventually upturned the peaceful life he'd come to know. He'd spend hours with his brothers watching from the seaside as high above them airships came and went, wondering where they ventured and where they'd come from, and how it would be to travel on them. How did such large things travel through the skies at all? To understand the bigger things, Donnie knew he had to study the smaller things. He liked to sneak into Elysium with his brothers and learned that there were some interesting pieces to salvage near the Circle of Blood, namely near where the steamcart races were held. Little things were easy to snatch. An old engine was a lot trickier, but with his older brother's helped, even that had been managed. Perhaps Donnie should have stopped there, but things were as much an adrenaline rush as it was an insatiable curiosity to be fed, and he pushed his luck, unfortunately too far.

Needless to say, the nobility didn't approve of their property being stolen, even if it was technically trash by that point. Considered too young and likely not sporting enough to throw into the Hunting Grounds for whatever he was, it was on a whim that Donnie was asked why he was stealing machinery, and finding opportunity in his answer, it was decided to see just how capable this young mind who was too curious for his own good was. Given most Turtle Beastkin appearances were rare (probably because they spend more time close to or underwater), Donnie was considered a curiosity, and with no real idea of where the teenager had come from, the noble felt the best way to keep an eye on him while making use of that brain for the Empire was to make him a servant. Not wanting anyone to find the rest of his family, much less his retired (?) gladiator father, Donnie let them believe he was an orphan on his own. While he really had no understanding about this servant business, from what he knew about the Empire was that it was big and powerful, and if someone belonging to it had seen what he could do, then maybe he could use his abilities and his smarts to do something great and wonderful that would help everyone, and maybe give his family a better life, whenever he was able to return to them.

This was unfortunately not the case. At first Donnie eagerly ate up any of the praise given for the designs he rendered, posed as problems or idle questions of 'what if', small things, seemingly inconsequential things that in reality were part of greater mechanisms before eventually asked how he would go about more intentional designs, his ideas and suggestions passed on to the technicians in the Empire's weapons and armory division. Despite all the promises that he'd be able to meet with like-minds and build things, nothing ever came out of it, but for a while, Donnie still remained hopeful. He fixed things around the noble's home and sometimes was allowed to study airships from the inside out on the rare occasion he was taken along anywhere. It was only after he'd been punished for being caught looking at books in the private library that he started to let himself question his actual purpose there. He knew deep down inside that things were never going to change, that he was just being used, but he hadn't wanted to acknowledge it because he didn't know what else he was going to be able to do about it. He received an even worse punishment when he'd been caught trying to figure out the Suppression Band and for a good while it kept him from doing anything more than what was expected of him, traumatized as the experience had left him.

Thankfully the Corsairs of the Vault had started to pick up on the recent improvements the Empire had made to their armaments that had been implemented within the past year. Their investigations found some unusual pieces of information that didn't seem to match up with the noble whose name kept coming up, and further exploration on the matter eventually led them to piece together what was going on and where a Beastkin youth that had been taken from Innistis fit into things.

Donnie has since been liberated, thrust into an even bigger world that he'd known. He's been away from his family for nearly two years, only having been with the Crimson Corsairs for a smaller part of the second. Due to his experience and knowledge of the Empire's weaponry he'd been immediately absorbed by the Vault to use his expertise against the very designs he may have helped come up with, as well as to make improvements for the Corsairs' own resources.

OU Backstory: Series Summaries and Movie Synopsis

Donnie is one of four turtles who were originally intended to be mutated into ultimate warriors for the yōkai Baron Draxum's plans to destroy humankind before they could do the same to the yōkai. The Baron used the DNA of a famous and skilled human fighter by the name of Lou Jitsu, originally a renowned martial arts action film star who was kidnapped by another powerful yōkai and made to fight in her Battle Nexus games. Lou Jitsu however did not want to see the young mutants be used for such a scheme and managed to free himself and the boys, although at the cost of being exposed to the ooze that had mutated them, finding himself transformed into a humanoid rat.

Years later the boys are teenagers who more or less have come to do what they please, their father Splinter's style of parenting quite hands-off, at least until his past comes to haunt him. But in the meantime the turtles discover the yōkai city hidden beneath New York and meet their creator. They also eventually learn of the true identity of their rat father, not only the very actor they've idolized since they were turtle tots, but whose true name was Yoshi, of an ancient ninja clan known as the Hamato. The Hamato were charged with the task of keeping vigilant should anyone attempt to revive a horrible evil, but Hamato Yoshi shirked such responsibilities, pursuing instead the life of a star. Together with his boys and through the power of the familial bonds of their clan, they manage to vanquish that evil.

It's a couple years later that another threat arises, this in the form of aliens imprisoned long ago, now seeking vengeance upon Earth. Warned by someone from a distressing future of what would come if they didn't manage to stop things now, the boys unfortunately find themselves severely outmatched and overpowered by the Krang. Their oldest brother Raphael is taken prisoner, and Leonardo sets out with his remaining brothers with the intent to rescue him, however ignoring the advice and concerns of his family. It takes some learning the hard way before he realizes that he needs them just as much as they need him, and it's only then that they're able to pull through. The Krang are still too powerful to be defeated, so they resort to planning how to once again imprison them in the dimension they'd been banished to in the first place. Donnie is charged along with Mikey in figuring out how to redirect the alien ship back through the portal while Leo goes to find Raph, and while they succeed in their main objectives, they still find themselves facing a seemingly invincible Krang. Leo sacrifices himself to keep their enemy on the other side of the portal so they can close it off, but Mikey wouldn't stand for losing him, not after Leo had never given up on them. He taps into another level of mystic power and is able to open his own portal in order to retrieve Leo, closing it just before Krang can escape after him. Though hardly unscathed from the battle, they succeed in saving Earth, watching as New York picks up the pieces to rebuild, a city just as persistent as them.

Powers and Abilities:

  • Mystic-Tech - Donnie can form any device or weapon he can conceive, sometimes to devastating proportions. These appear as glowing violet outlines of hardlight but still respond as solid material and energy as applicable. Usage ranges from extensions to his chosen melee weapon or materialization of armor, and along more extreme lines, even an entire arsenal. His only limitation really is his imagination. Depending on how complex their inner mechanisms might be, it takes a little time for things to come together- something that can potentially be bypassed but possibly a self-imposed impediment for how he thinks things need to work. (Will of course be shifted style-wise to fit with the world's level of technology).
  • Trained in melee combat by his father and favors staves and spears as a weapon, which matches his eye for precision and efficiency.
  • His reflexes and agility are top-notch as he and his brothers, being raised by a land-dweller, took to a more active lifestyle and actually have no real idea of how your average Turtlekin live, although it's likely not spent flipping around off trees and cliffs and cannon-balling into the ocean. Donnie's particular vulnerability is for his soft-shell, and after his Empire experience he's taken to creating battle shell armor for added protection.
  • As a Turtlekin he is an excellent swimmer and while he can't necessarily breathe underwater, he can however hold his breath for a very long time, giving him an advantage underwater when he doesn't have to be encumbered by excess equipment.
  • He's a tinkerer and a genius, and unfortunately he knows it. Donnie hasn't come across anything technical and mechanical that he hasn't been able to figure out, and his mind is always working at thinking of how to make things better. He loves building and designing things, and ever since being crossed by the Empire he's had no regrets in letting people in the Vault know the best way to counter any of the Imperial weaponry they come across that he recognizes as particularly using designs of his own making.
